My relationship with curating began early, through something as simple as rearranging the visual landscape of my bedroom. Looking back, that habit revealed something about how I move through the world. I started my career in film, working in art direction. Growing up in Mauritius meant limited exposure to the institutional art world, its galleries, infrastructure, and networks, so it was only once I immersed myself in Cape Town’s art ecosystem that I recognised curating as the work I needed to pursue.
Since 2021 I have curated and managed over 40 exhibitions, collaborating with artists including Lerato Motau, Corné Eksteen, Michelle Nigrini, and Thembalethu Manqunyana. What interests me most is reading spatial relationships, understanding the history embedded in objects, and creating the conditions for art to speak. I currently serve as Curator and Exhibition Manager for a major touring exhibition travelling between Johannesburg and Cape Town, opening mid 2027 and running through March 2028.
The Long List, my current curatorial platform, grew out of Maison Salomé, an earlier curatorial website and online gallery I ran. It functions as both archive and critical voice, offering rigorous engagement with contemporary art from Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean region.
Practice
My curatorial practice centres on emerging artists, particularly those from underrepresented regions like Mauritius and other island nations. I believe these artists deserve visibility within continental and international art worlds. I prioritise female artists and their work.
Much of what I do involves creating dialogue between emerging African artists and established international figures, bringing them into conversation rather than keeping them separate. This challenges the hierarchies we’re used to and opens up new ways of looking at both bodies of work.
